www.north-oakland-cohousing.org Our group has been together, working to create cohousing in the East Bay for 3 years. Originally we planned to build cohousing condominiums, but we now plan to buy an apartment building. We are looking at buildings with a cohousing-friendly design that already have tenants. Banks are more likely to finance the purchase of building with a steady income stream, making this approach feasible for us in the current lending economy.
We will move in as vacancies arise and will continue to create our community over time. New members may be current tenants or others from the community who are interested in cohousing. We are still working out the numbers, but we anticipate that each household will purchase a share for between $45,000 and $70,000 to become an equity member.
We're called North Oakland Cohousing (aka NOC) because we originally came together around a site in the Temescal district of Oakland, but now we're looking in Oakland, Berkeley and Emeryville, and possibly Albany and El Cerrito.
Please join us on the 30th if you would like to find out more about our community. Attending an information session is also the first step to joining NOC. If you have any questions you can contact Jenny by clicking on her name on the MeetUp, or call her at [masked] between 9 am and 9 pm.
