Learn more about the cohousing movement, its history, sustainability/green features, and communities in development. Meet other people looking to live in and/or co-create cohousing neighborhoods - in the Bay Area and beyond.

Architect and author, Katie McCamant, will discuss how cohousing reduces the size of your carbon footprint while increasing your quality of life.

This free event is put on and sponsored by Cohousing Partners, California's leading Cohousing developer. "Cohousing is the New Old Fashioned Neighborhood
Green Built From the Ground Up!
", which has this to say:

McCamant & Durrett Architects have been walkin' the talk for years now. The firm just won a second prestigious 2008 EnergyValue Award from the NAHB for Nevada City Cohousing; the first was given for Frog Song Cohousing in Cotati. Chuck will explain how from the very beginning - cohousing site selection, building orientation, design, materials and community life all go to supporting a more sustainable lifestyle.

Updates about Fresno Cohousing (completing construction) and Wolf Creek Village/Wolf Creek Lodge in Grass Valley (just starting construction) will also be given. And as always, plenty of time is given to answer your questions about cohousing.

    •  I've been to cohousing talks before, but this time I came to hear Ms. McCamant. I was very impressed with her knowledge, experience, and passion for cohousing. Lots of very interesting and compelling information came out of the talk, not just about cohousing, but the social, economic and infrastructural environment in which it sits. I was pleased that permaculture is generally an important design element, although it may go by other names; I had not heard that in the other talks.

I liked all the information and the pictures to illustrate. I would have like some lights on to be able to take notes.

Katie has the rap down (no surprise given her experience and depth of involvement in the movement), and she seamlessly makes the connection between sustainability and community, dispelling myths and helping people see how they can make their future home in cohousing. It was nice to have people there from several different built and developing cohousing neighborhoods and to learn about upcoming bike and bus tours.
