SUMMARY:SF Backyard Neighborhood & Learning Center Meeting: Goals/Sharing P
 lanning
DESCRIPTION:East Bay Cohousing - Berkeley/Oakland/Emeryville/SF area\n\nObs
ervers will be welcome at this meeting\, but only the members may take part
in decision making. Members will be available to answer questions and list
en to comments during the first and last 15 minutes (12:30 to 12:45 and 2:4
5 to 3:00)\, and at least one member can stay after 3:00. This meeting wil
l be mostly of interest to families who unschool their children and would l
ike to live close to other such families in San Francisco\, but it may also
be of interest to other people who support self-directed learning and woul
d like to live in cohousing where there are many children playing/learning
in the common area every day. At the February meeting\, we drafted a visio
n statement: "Our vision is to create a cohousing community in the heart o
f San Francisco where children are self-directed learners. We value diversi
ty\, social and ecological responsibility\, mutual learning\, and joy." At
the March meeting\, we plan to draft specific goals to supplement that sta
tement\, and we may begin answering "20 Questions to Ask When You Share" fr
om The Sharing Solution\, co-authored by local cohouser/attorney Janelle Or
si. In the coming months\, we hope to hire a lawyer who specializes in SF T
ICs and begin searching for property with good potential for shared backyar
ds. Children will be welcome at the meeting as long as they are not very l
oud. (We recently learned that there is an operating room above our meeting
room.) If the children get too loud or restless\, parents could take them
to the park across the street. The suggested donation at the door will be
$2 per person for the meeting space. For more information\, see sfbackyard

r Kirk Boyd to the shop for a celebratory Launch Party for his new book\, 2
048: Humanity's Agreement to Live Together\, which sets out the visionary\,
audacious\, but achievable goal of drafting an enforceable international a
greement that will allow the people of the world to create a social order b
ased upon human rights and the rule of law\, on Wednesday\, April 14 at 7pm
. In 1948 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declar
ation of Human Rights\, a deeply inspiring document that has been translate

enforceable\, its promise has not been fulfilled. Human rights violations c
ontinue in every corner of the globe\, the cause of countless individual tr
agedies as well as large-scale disasters like war\, poverty and environment
al ruin. Kirk Boyd is a lawyer\, professor\, and Executive Director of the
2048 Project. He teaches International Human Rights\, Civil Rights\, Inter
national Law\, Free Speech\, and Constitutional Law at the University of Ca
lifornia. Boyd has argued at every level of court\, including the United St
