The Keys to Green Affordable Housing: A Guide for Existing Multifamily Properties
Retrofitting our existing housing stock is key to reaching our economic, environmental and carbon reduction goals. This session will discuss effective approaches and key considerations to successful and affordable green multifamily retrofit projects. We will identify strategies that make measurable impacts on green multifamily retrofits and explore incentives and finance opportunities available for green multifamily retrofits.
This is the first of three 90 minute national webinars, sponsored by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), which will discuss key issues in the affordable housing sector, including: green multifamily retrofit projects, sustainable operations and maintenance of affordable housing buildings, and financial and incentive aspects of affordable projects.
We are hosting this session at the Hub in the Brower Center in downtown Berkeley because we believe the topics are extremely relevant for cohousing, especially "retrofit" cohousing projects using existing multifamily housing, as North Oakland Cohousing is currently envisioning. The combination of outside financing specifically linked to green development could be the key that helps make cohousing affordable in the urban East Bay.
After all three sessions of this training, you will be able to, according to USGBC:
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) available for AIA members.

A very technical presentation, but we used the whiteboard walls of the space to explain terms and acronyms. Several members of the Hub coworking space joined us as well.
