East Bay Cohousing is hosting in Downtown Berkeley at The Hub at the Brower Center live in-person community-forming links to the Transition Movement's new Heart & Soul Series, teleconferences with people making a difference, featuring in July Joanna Macy, EBCOHO partner Daily Acts' Trathen Heckman , and Kit Miller (featured on this event), a local compassionate communication (NVC) and Permaculture guru.
During this gathering, "Connecting Across Differences," we will explore ways to bridge disconnect within us and among us. The class will include experiential exercises in Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and coaching as well specific applications for transition-related work.
Transition US, the series host, works closely with The Transition Network, the international movement spawned by the original Transition Town vision and book in England that maps out a path for citizen engagement in building resiliency through preparing towns for Peak Oil and other coming climate-, energy-, and economy-related challenges.
EBCOHO is participating in the series and hosting it locally because:
We'll join the conference call, bring up relevant info and websites on the display, and listen and appreciate and contribute together but also go deeper with our own in-person connections, using the room's wall-to-wall whiteboards for introductions, visualization, collective communication, collaboration and visioning during the event.
Optional "Sexy Salad" potluck lunch afterwards with Hub members.
Please arrive promptly, as the call will begin at the posted time. Half price for current EBCOHO sustaining members (time to join or renew? Do it today, online or at the event), and HUB Members.
Kit Miller serves as the director of the MK Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence. Her prior position was as director/celebrator of Bay Area Nonviolent Communication (BayNVC) in Oakland, California. In part after coming to understand through meditation about violence within the human heart and mind, Kit began learning about and organizing for nonviolence for 16 years in many capacities. Kit is a certified permaculturist, which she experiences as an applied nonviolence practice, and is active in the US Transition movement to create sustainable communities worldwide. She has 3 children and is amazed and grateful to have been happily married for 19 years.
RSVP here to join us - space is limited. A portion of the door fees will be donated to Transition US.
Current opportunities to become part of sustainable communities in the area include:
Good question, Jonnie. The presenter is an NVC trainer and permaculturist. The description is what she says the topic will be. Kit will be on the conference call (as in the first two calls) and we will do local activities, bringing up websites, live-painting (courtesy of EBCOHO Member Stephen "Mr. Fun" Kelly), and otherwise connecting in the room.
Oh, and because of MeetUp limits, I couldn't fit "connecting across differences" in the title. In general treat MeetUp titles like newspaper headlines, and look to the event description for details.
The call runs from 11 AM to 12:15 PM; you can stick around for "Sexy Salad" potluck with hub members if you like.

I'm confused about this event. The name is
Kit Miller on NVC&Permaculture, but the description talks about "Connecting Across Differences," and exploring ways to bridge disconnect within us and among us. Can somebody clarify what the topic will be and how much of it will be with Kit and how much with just the people present locally?
