Brown-Bag Lunch: What's Money Got to Do With It? (Berkeley Downtown)

Please join the Sustainable Economies Law Center (SELC, co-founded by EBCOHO Member/Sharing Solution author/attorney Janelle Orsi) for an informal lunch-time conversation at The Hub for Social Entrepreneurship at the Brower Center in Downtown Berkeley to discuss:

  • What’s the function of money in our economy?
  • Where does money come from?
  • We don’t actually have trillions of dollar bills circulating, do we?
  • How does the money system work and how does it create scarcity and poverty?
  • Do we actually need money in order to transact with each other?
  • What about barter, sharing, gift economies, local currencies, and other alternatives to the conventional money system?
  • What can you do to take greater control over your economy?

Hope to see you there!

Note: We have limited attendance so EBCOHO folks don't overwhelm the room; several other Hub members will likely be joining us. EBCOHO Supporting Members get first dibs on this and other events, discounts on our paid events, and first notice of some community living opportunities. Add your support by upgrading to a Supporting Membership in East Bay Cohousing to get this plus a Cohousing Coaching session and a book, the tools you need to get serious about your quest for community.

We are hosting an event on a related topic on Saturday, July 31: local facilitator/teacher Eris Weaver will be leading a workshop in South Berkeley on how to talk about money, aimed at cohousing groups working out the details of sharing.

And a significant part of Diana Leafe Christian's EcoVillage-creation workshop in August deals with financial and legal aspects of community creation as well.

Janelle is also speaking Monday night, July 26, in San Francisco, on "Transitioning to a Sharing World" with a Transition Movement group there.
