Nuts and Bolts of Cooperative Housing (Davis)

Sep 2010 23
Description

Nuts and Bolts of Cooperative Housing trains affordable housing developers, community organizers and funders how to implement the Limited Equity Housing Cooperative model to create permanent affordable housing with ownership. In 2010 this conference will be held in early Fall.

Cooperative Housing is a time-tested model for affordable home ownership that creates a host of positives for homeowners, developers and communities including: long-lasting affordability to initial and subsequent owners, protections against predatory lending, reduced monitoring costs, and increased community participation.

This 1-day conference highlights 2 specific models to create home ownership for low and moderate income households: Limited Equity Housing Co-ops and Manufactured Home Co-ops. Educators include experienced cooperative housing developers, funders, lawyers and grassroots organizers. These educators provide training that will outline clear, step-by-step approaches to developing cooperative housing, highlighting financing resources, legal processes, and concrete tools for creating effective resident governance. Multi-family homes, mobile homes parks, and single-family homes are all covered.
