Rethinking Home: Brown-Bag Lunch on sustainable community law (Berkeley)

EBCOHO member and Sharing Solution co-author Janelle Orsi, a fellow member of the HUB for Social Innovation, is organizing a new program, Rethinking Home, that may be of interest to some EBCOHO members. Please only RSVP to join us if you get excited about exploring subtle legalities around building community and sharing our homes. Her letter is below. We've restricted registrations so EBCOHO folks don't overwhelm -- please join the waiting list if it is full and we'll notify you if space opens up.

Dear friends,
I'm pleased to announce the launch of the Sustainable Economies Law Center's (SELC) newest program, Rethinking Home, and would like to invite you to give input on and be involved in this burgeoning project.

Rethinking Home is a program working to develop an online resource library and legal tools that will enable new ways of housing ourselves. Rethinking Home asks the questions:

  • As we transition to more sustainable, just, and localized economies, how should our housing change?
  • If debt-financed, isolated, sprawling, single-family homes have proven to be unsustainable to our planet and economies, what are the alternatives, creative solutions, and innovative ideas we should be exploring now?

To help SELC begin to answer these questions, we invite you to a casual brown bag lunch discussion and brainstorming session, taking place on Thursday, September 9th, noon to 1:30, at the Hub at the David Brower Center in downtown Berkeley.

I am also pleased to introduce the Program Manager of Rethinking Home, Sean Betouliere (also an EBCOHO member), who will be working full time this fall on developing resources, doing research, and building a network of advisors for this project.

We look forward to connecting with each of you and receiving your input on this project!
