Fairview House co-op final open house - room available (South Berkeley)

Fairview House Coop (map)

Selected By: Raines Cohen

image 3Sunday afternoon is the last of three open houses this week at Fairview House, a shared permanently-affordable land-trust limited-equity cooperative group house in South Berkeley not far from Ashby BART. It is not cohousing, and involves a lot more shared amenities and less privacy, but we know many EBCOHO members are exploring alternative forms of community living, and it's a heck of a lot cheaper. We last listed an opening here in 2007, and know some former and current residents. Below find the basic info the group posted on Craig's List:

  • Want to live without a landlord?
  • Like living in community?
  • Do you function well with consensus decision making?

OPEN HOUSE SCHEDULE
(please do not come by outside of these times)

image 0Please come to the open house of our cooperative household in South Berkeley.

Monthly charges are $445 which includes utilities and 'rent'. Food and toiletries are $230/month.

We currently have one bedroom coming available April 1st in our beautiful Victorian home.

The bedroom is bright and spacious, on the second floor with East and North facing windows and a sizable closet.

We are a friendly cooperative of nine including artists, musicians, techies, outdoorsy people, educators, and professionals.

We have a newly remodeled (shared) kitchen, hardwood floors, gardens, movement space, image 2 laundry, bike storage, and high speed wireless internet. Well-stocked fridge and pantry (mostly organic), many shared meals. Only a 4-minute walk to the Ashby BART.

Living in this cooperative community includes cooking for the house every other week, various household chores, grocery shopping once a month, occasional weekend workdays, and house meetings on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of every month. We also have occasional house gatherings, bbq, dinner parties, and other events.
