Swan's Market Cohousing: Housesitting Opportunities (Old Oakland)

(just spotted on the national Cohousing-L mailing list, and we thought some EBCOHOers, especially those currently living out of the area, would be interested in these opportunities for sampling community living a few days at a time, and we confirmed with Joani that it would be OK to share with East Bay Cohousing members. Raines used to be her neighbor at Swan's Market Cohousing. Scroll down for some other community updates and events)

Friends,

I live in the most urban cohousing community in North America, Swan's Market Cohousing in downtown Oakland, California. This spring and summer I am doing quite a lot of traveling and would very much like to give folks from anywhere in the country the opportunity to stay in my home in this wonderful community and see what it's like to live in cohousing in exchange for taking loving care of my little poodle.

If you stay here, you can also use my car. However, we are walking distance from all kinds of wonderful places here in downtown Oakland, and two blocks from a BART station. The BART will take you to downtown San Francisco in 12 minutes. And there are buses galore to take you anywhere in the East Bay that you might want to go from here.

I live in a loft unit with one full size bed in the loft and one downstairs, so it's comfortable for one or two adults with up to two children. However, my place is not baby-proof, so wouldn't do for a crawler or toddler. We have three common dinners a week here that you can participate in if you choose.

Please feel free to call or email if you have questions or interest in particular date ranges, at a variety of times this Spring and Summer.

While you're there, take a moment check out the New EBCOHO Home Page. It lists multiple upcoming events, highlights photos and videos, and a newsfeed of your comments, RSVPs, messages, and activity. We're just barely starting to take advantage of all the new features, and are working on a tutorial, but the key thing you need to know about is: the more you participate, the more you get out of EBCOHO. One example: When you post a message in our discussion forums, it now gets highlighted for members at the top of the home page, making it easier to make connections, form a group, find openings, and build engagement.
