Hi Ananda and All:
I'd also be interested in attending this meeting and exploring possibilities. I live near El Cerrito and could pick you up Brigitte if that would be helpful. Looking forward to meeting you all. Will bring a snack. Anin ![]() |

The second gathering of people interested in creating cooperative living spaces met last night at the ecology center. There were about 20 people there, mostly people who have been "talking" about community living and seeking community for quite a while. For the most part, most people there already knew a lot about co-housing and different forms of cooperative living. There was more "talking about" peoples' experience in cooperative living, and people expressed what they are looking for, which was very interesting. However, there was no action taken, no one organized any action committees, and the only step forward was scheduling another meeting for a pot luck dinner and more discussion time to" talk about" community living. ( Time and place and date to be announced we're checking on availability) I felt a sense of urgency in the room for people who feel like they need to find their right place to settle in for their senior years and go ahead with starting to do the work of establishing community and start creating a harmonious, peaceful, and caring environment. There seemed to be two types of people at the meeting. Those who want to rent a space together either a large house, or apartments in the same building, and those who want to get a mortgage and buy a place to either retrofit or build. It was an interesting discussion and I think people enjoyed getting to know each other as community seekers. Some people in the room talked about their long journey of seeking community and are still seeking their right place, but expressed feelings of "giving-up". I sincerely hope this start-up group turns into a loving group of community people and we go from "talking about it" to real time action and people will soon be living in the space they visualize as true cooperative living. So if any one in this group would like to take some action steps and go with me to start looking at possible renting scenarios, jump in and lets get to work. Someone mentioned that a lot of the large student houses start coming up for rent in the next couple of months. I personally would love nothing more than to go with a team of people, ready to take action, and start looking for a community house. Anyone want to join me? Honestly? I'm tired of talking about it, I want to start living the dream. I really don't want to still be having potlucks this time next year. If you are worried that you don't know people well enough to share cooperative living, nothing cures that faster than working on committees together. So if you are ready for action step up and lets get together. Great meeting everyone, thanks for coming out! Let's keep growing this group so people can find each other and start learning to live together, peacefully.

Hi,
Here is the link to Breitenbush, an intentional community that is also a worker's cooperative. They live rent free and earn a paycheck. It might be good for our group to investigate the possibility of us setting up a income earning/intentional community. http://www.breitenbus... Below is the link to Ganas, another community that has income earning/intentional community. They have 3 businesses, vintage clothing, used furniture, and a bookstore/cafe. http://www.ganas.org/... It was good meeting you all, and I look forward to getting to know you all better. Best wishes, Paula |

Hi Paula, Anin, Mitra, and other folks interested in this group; Ananda has gotten a great invitation to be part of a group house in Monterey Bay. Maybe we'll hear more details, but I understand that she's headed off to start a new life there.
Given the interest in live/work community, I mentioned to Paula today, that there's a California Cooperatives Conference happening May 4 and 5, check out our calendar for more details and links. It's a great event, mostly about worker cooperatives, but there is a FREE and OPEN 5pm gathering of the East Bay Cooperative Housing Alliance (made up of people already living in a cooperative or cohousing community) that is open to seekers. On Saturday, for conference goers Rick Lewis of BACLT (an ebcoho affiliate) is putting together a panel with Jesse Palmer, an experienced lawyer on cooperative housing legal and financial issues among other things. The program and schedule, expenses, and registration are all at the cccd.org website or check at bayareaclt.org as well. Edited by Betsy Morris on Mar 30, 2012 10:06 PM |
