A friend at Milvia House just dropped us a line:

We have 1 room available in our semi-cooperative home in North Berkeley.
Availability: April 16th – May 1st move in date: ($595/month)

If you are interested please read the entire post for info and send us an email with all of the information requested. Thank you!

The room:
The $595 room is upstairs overlooking the back garden. It has nice wood floors and gets great natural light. (size: 11’ x 14’) Shares the upstairs bathroom with one other person.

Us:
There are five people total who live in the house – four people in the main house and one person in the back cottage. Our intention is to maintain good communication, balance individuality with communal living and create a space that feels like a home. There are four women in the house now: an acupuncturist, a businesswoman, a graduate student, and a landscape designer.

We have a semi-communal kitchen/shopping list, get a veggie box each week, divide up house chores, have a cleaning schedule that keeps the house looking great, share utilities and wireless internet service. We have the occasional house meeting and strive to maintain good communication in between. We keep reasonable hours in the common areas to accommodate work schedules and an old house whose walls aren’t as thick as we’d sometimes like them to be.

Our house:
The house is an old, 1916 craftsman with great wood detailing. We’ve got a large kitchen with a gas stove, a large living room and a beautiful dining room with a fireplace. We’ve got a small front yard and a backyard as well. The house is located on Milvia Street at Francisco and it’s a short 10-15 min walk to the downtown Berkeley BART station. We’ve got a driveway, but street parking is easy and everything is walk-able.

We are a pet-free, no-smoking house. There is no washer/dryer, but we do have a good clothesline out back and the Laundromat is close by.

You:
If you are responsible, communicative, and home is an important place for you, please email and tell us a bit about yourself. We'd love to meet and show you the place.

We're looking for a roommate to move in as early as April 16. We will be conducting informal interviews on Tuesday April 6th and Thursday April 8th in the evening.

If you are interested please email us at themilviahouse at yahoo.com. In your email please tell us about yourself, why you’re interested in our house, what evening would be best to come by and the best way to get a hold of you (phone number & email).

Thanks again! The folks at the Milvia House
