Kaiser-Piedmont Cohousing

NEW! (8/8/09): This site is off the market: the individual apartments are now being offered for rent by the owner. If a group wanted to go in on this project as rentals, we'd be happy to help, but it would mean raising the rents to rent an additional unit as a Common House. In our pursuit of potential here, we learned that time was of the essence - too many interested potential neighbors were waiting for someone else to take the first step.

We just learned from local Buyers' Agent Mickey Tenenbaum of a new potential cohousing site, an existing 10-unit renovated apartment building, in a prime location, at an affordable price -- perhaps $250k per unit (including Common House and closing costs and group development), with seller financing. This represents a substantial discount over the asking prices as individual units. We think the design has potential as a ready-to-move-in instant cohousing neighborhood if a group makes one of the units into a Common House.

Some members went to an open house recently, and joined us for a briefing for people to learn more about it; we are working get a group together rapidly if there's interest.

Time is of the essence; if you're at all interested, get involved.

East Bay Cohousing members: click here to get more information about the property and agree to use Mickey Tennenbaum as buyer's agent for collective purchase if buying as part of a community (no added cost to you; he gets paid a commission by the seller).

Some basics about the property:
  • Beautifully renovated 1 & 2 bedroom units
  • All units open to a lush courtyard
  • Stainless steel appliances
  • Hardwood floors
  • WALK TO PIEDMONT AVENUE!

More provided by the sellers' agent:

located just a block away from one of the East Bay's most desirable neighborhoods -- Piedmont Avenue. Fantastic restaurants, cafés, boutiques, and movie theater are all within walking distance. Great commuter locale! 1 mile to BART; just 10 miles to San Francisco. Howe Street intersects with 40th Street at the corner, so commuting to Emeryville is a breeze! (or to MacArthur BART via the Kaiser shuttle or bus or bike)

(name is just a placeholder to refer to the location, a block to Piedmont Ave. and Kaiser's Oakland health center, just off MacArthur Blvd. near 38th; not connected with Kaiser Permanente, Kaiser Health or the City of Piedmont)
