Mango House

Rooms Available! The Mango House Cooperative Living Situation is looking for two new housemates to complete our cozy 8-person abode!
Vacancies:

  • double room, $430. Available January 15th (with the option to move in earlier).
  • single room, $585. Available February 1st.

About the location:

  • Mango House is located on the corner of Martin Luther King Jr Way and Berkeley Way, in the heart of "downtown" Berkeley.
  • We're a short (8 to 10-minute) walk away from the Downtown Berkeley BART station and not far from the North Berkeley BART station.
  • The UC Berkeley campus is just up the hill.
  • Ohlone Park is right around the corner (as are scores of yummy restaurants!).

About the house:

  • Charming.
  • Much of the house features wood floors and wood paneling.
  • Lots of windows. All the rooms get great light.
  • Our kitchen rocks. Period.
  • We have a side yard with a fire pit and a small garden that we're looking to revitalize.
  • FAST internet. Only a few bucks a month.
  • We have both street and driveway parking.
  • Sorry, NO PETS.

About the cooperative living situation:

  • We buy most food collectively and cook (in pairs) for each other four nights out of the week.
  • As a house, we buy vegetarian (although omnivores are certainly welcome) and nearly exclusively organic. Food money totals $105 per month during fall, winter, and spring, and is usually a bit less ($80 or so) in the summers.
  • Each co-op member is assigned a weekly chore (although we’ve done a rotation in the past, and could be open to reinstating it).
  • Each person has a "permanent chore," such as tending to the high-speed internet or coordinating the food budget.
  • We enjoy each other! We are a warm, loving community; we strive to support housemates in all their endeavors and cultivate a healthy, happy living environment!

About the double:

  • quite large – easily fits two queen beds, two dressers, two desks, two bookshelves, etc.
  • three enormous south-facing windows allow for lots of light.
  • carpeted.
  • built-in closet, large enough to comfortably share.

Note on the double room: you would most likely be sharing the room with a biologically and gender-identified male. Also, there will be another single opening up mid-February, and you would have the option to switch into a single at that point.
About the single:

  • medium-sized – easily fits a king bed, dresser, desk, book, shelf, etc.
  • two east-facing windows allow for lots of light.
  • carpeted.
  • closet space.
  • possibly semi-furnished.

About the Mangos:
We’re a fabulous crew of twenty-somethings: grad students, undergraduates, and working adults. We enjoy spending time with each other and love the occasional dinner party or spontaneous late-night kitchen dance extravaganza, but we are also hardworking students, artists, and activists, and value our personal time and space.
First month's rent, last month's rent, and security deposit equaling one-month’s rent required at time of move-in. We collect rent on the 15th, so for the double you would owe $1290 on January 15th. For the single you would owe half month’s rent (February 1st-15th), first month, and last month on February 1st, totaling $1462.50.
Shoot us an email--we're looking forward to hearing from you! hous-twtnc-1541166813@craigslist.org
