EBCOHO Supporting Member Dee Love is looking for someone to rent a upper flat in her "Multi-Coho" mini-cohousing neighborhood near King Middle School in North Berkeley, a short walk from the Gourmet Ghetto. See photos here.
Upper floor of large house in Berkeley flatlands half mile from gourmet ghetto near King Middle School. Cozy kitchen recently redone, living room, one bedroom, and another room with fantastic light that can be used as bedroom, home office, artist studio, meditation room, etc. Hardwood floors. One bathroom. Perfect size for one person with small business, single parent, couple, or small family. Three closets, plus additional storage space. Security gate and private deck that looks out on garden. This space is the upper floor of one of two houses on a large lot.
We are a small multicultural, multigenerational group of artists, activists, and professionals living in six separate spaces, including one couple with a toddler. Our current mix is Black, Latino, White, South Asian. Some bilingual in Spanish. Queer friendly.
Over the years, relationships have developed organically, or residents have reached out to friends and family members to move in when spaces opened. More recently some spaces have been rented via craigslist. For the first time, however, we are reaching out to the larger co-housing community and looking to bring people in whom we don't know personally, but who have shared values. With a new little person in one of the spaces, the push to live more interconnectedly seems more immediate, and we want the next generation to grow up surrounded by closer community, and we are making the leap officially calling ourselves co-housing.
We are looking for someone who would be a good fit to build community, develop loosely interdependent relationships, share some meals, socialize, and other shared activities, such as gardening, cooking, shopping, farmer's markets, walking, biking together, etc. Self-awareness, communication skills, sense of humor, flexibility, and experience in community a must.
Logistical basics: Near bart, shopping, bus lines, off biking blvd. No smokers. No pets. Water, garbage paid. Available 1/1/11. $1450+utilities.
